New Upper (pr0n included!)

5 Attachment(s)
After 6 months of waiting, it has finally arrived. My .50 Beowulf upper! It actually came in yesterday, but didn't want to post until I had pics. It cost me $920 shipped with the muzzle brake installed. I ordered it late October and it was supposed to be shipped sooner. Lucky for me I wasn't in a hurry. I'd rather they take the time and make it right than rush out an inferior product. Still, I'd hate to think how long the wait would be if ordering one now. I also ordered 80 rounds for it at the same time. Those came in about 2 months ago. The upper is paired with my Stag lower. The stock is a Command Arms sniper stock with a monopod, which is moot in this application since the Beowulf isn't exactly a bench gun.

I hope to get it out to the range this Saturday. I'll probably throw the first few rounds at paper just to see where I'm at. After that I'll probably want a more reactive target.

I may eventually build a separate lower for it. For now this will work fine. I can only shoot one rifle at a time anyway.

Yikes indeed! The only "rage" coming out of this thing will be inflicted upon inanimate obects that are of no value to anyone. Man, that's one hell of a typo, lol.

the Lower with the SASS stock setup on it visually doesnt fit the Beowolf iron site upper

but that upper setup is great ...congrats...

betcha you're going be knocking down a lot of squirrels and chipmunks and crows with that piece... HAPPY EATING! :s1: :wavey:

I just KNOW that's the only reason you got it, right?

P.S. Be sure not to take it along with you next time you go fishing... it could fall out of the boat and get lost in the deep lake bottom!

This is true, but the stock has adjustable padded butt plate and cheek rest, so at least the comfort is there. The iron sites can both be removed if I decide to mount a piece of glass on it.

Here is a photo of my rig with the Stag upper and lower:

After watching that vid, it makes all the sense in the world why everyone should own one! And why there is a long wait to get one.

A quick google tells me that the Beowulf round is based on the .50 round used in the Desert Eagle. It will fire 330 gr bullets at over 2,000 fps with energy levels of around 3,000 ft-lbs, that is major league.

I have to wonder if the lower is going to hold up over time. Tony Rumore at Tromix builds AR uppers in .458 SOCOM. And he puts it right there on the order page that he doesn't recommend using them with adjustable stocks. He says the recoil will quickly wreck the "clicks" and the stock will fail. He only recommends fixed stocks with that cartridge.

I'm sure it WILL be fun to shoot though!

I added a video from today to my original post. You wanted a range report? The video speaks for itself!

N-Joy. (I know I did!) :ok:

Wow. I only have 2 guns, never been much of a gun person.

But, this post may have changed me. I've got to get one of these!!

http://alexanderarms.com/beowulf.htm and it depends on the options.

If you don't mind waiting, they won't mind having you as a customer.

Satyr, can you tell us a little more about the test shoot?

What grain bullets did you fire, about how much were they, and what did you think of the recoil?

Houston, Texas eh? I grew up around that area. Love the avatar btw. Anywho, I was using their 334gn FMJ HP for the melon. I also nailed some cans and 2 liter bottles of cheap soda with their 334gn FMJ. I didn't actually shoot at paper to sight it in. Nor did I do any long distance shooting. I'll do that later. At close range (20-40 yards), however, the factory settings were fine.

As for the recoil, it really wasn't bad. It's about like bird shot from a 12ga shotgun. But, after a while, you'll start to feel it. Especially if there is one time you don't shoulder it right or try to rapid fire with it. I put about 25 rounds through it and it barely left a bruise. Ammo is hard to come by. I had mine on back order for about 4 months and got it in before the upper. That really drove me nuts :confused_ma:. I forgot exactly what it cost me, but I think it came out to about $1.30 or $1.40 per round. A good chunk of the price was in shipping and I only ordered 80 rounds. Look to the Alexander Arms website that I provided earlier to check out their types of ammo and prices. I think I'll be ordering their 400 grain rounds next.

Thanks for filling us in, and the enthusiasm in your video cracks me up! That really looks like a lot of fun! I'm seriously considering a .50 Beowulf upper even though I'm a southpaw. Doesn't look like a lefty model is out there, so I may just have to deal with it.

I wouldn't worry too much about shooting lefty with these bad boys. It was ejecting the spent casings 12 to 15 feet perfectly to the right. Not one casing landed behind me. So, I doubt you'd get many/any hitting you in the face.
